Tween & Teen Summer Reading Challenge (TTSRC)
2015 Theme:  Every Hero Has a Story!

What is the TTSRC?  Well, it’s *NOT* another assignment!  Although you can certainly log the time you spend reading for your school summer reading assignment, you don’t have to read anything in particular for the TTSRC.  Just read!

What counts?

  • audiobooks
  • comic books
  • fan fiction
  • graphic novels
  • magazines
  • manga
  • novels
  • reading aloud to someone else (e.g. sibling, babysitting)
  • short stories

Simply put, the TTSRC is a fun way to encourage tweens and teens to read during the summer — with an added bonus if they beat Chrissie’s goal.  This summer, tweens and teens will be able to duct tape Chrissie to a wall at the end of summer party if they read at least 1000 hours during the TTSRC!  (And, yes — that’s 1000 hours total, NOT per person!)

Read It Forward

Read It Forward (RIF) is a summer program where teens read a featured title and pass the book to their peers who continue the cycle of reading and sharing. The benefits: connecting libraries to teens in contemporary and teen-friendly ways, fostering teen reading and communication about books, promoting collaboration with schools, calling attention to quality teen literature, and encouraging parents to read and discuss books with teens.  RIF is a collaborative program of the Upper Hudson Library System.

This year’s book is:
I Have a Bad Feeling About This by Jeff Strand

bad-feeling

Read Chrissie’s review of this book for an idea of what it’s all about.

DON’T FORGET:  If you can’t get your hands on one of the RIF copies, you an always request a copy from the UHLS catalog or download the ebook on OverDrive.

Once you’ve read the book, take a quick survey for a chance to win a prize, then share your thoughts [and see what other people thought] on the UHLS blog: http://blogs.uhls.org/rifbadfeeling/
