My First Storytime (baby – 24 months)
This storytime includes lap and bouncing rhymes, short stories, songs, and other fun activities. The formal part of the program runs about 30 minutes with a playgroup afterwards. We even provide the toys!
Toddler Playtime (18 months – 3 years)
Children enjoy free time while parents and caregivers have a chance to chat and get acquainted. Each week a different community resource specialist (such as a nutritionist, a speech therapist, etc.) is available to answer any questions parents may have. There will also be an art activity and circle time!
Storytime for 2s & 3s
OR Wednesdays @11am
Storytime for 2s & 3s takes advantage of kids’ growing motor skills. We share stories, songs, fingerplays and other group activities for about 30 minutes and provide a coloring sheet or simple craft afterwards.
*Registration for residents of East Greenbush & Schodack begins @ 9am on Monday, April 20th.
*Open registration for non-residents begins @ 9am on Friday, April 24th.
How to Register:
1.) Visit us in person at the Children’s Room desk
2.) Call us at 518-477-7476, menu option 3
3.) Register yourself via the children’s event calendar
During the resident only registration period, we verify residency with a library card belonging to the child or parent/guardian. If you don’t have a library card, please stop in before registration begins to sign up for one.
Do I need to sign up in advance?
Family Storytimes and Pajama Storytimes DO NOT require registration. During the Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions, My First Storytime, Storytime for 2s & 3s, and Storytime for 4s & 5s DO require registration.
Do I need to stay with my child during the program?
Yes, participate with your child and have fun! Parents who are listening to the stories and showing interest in books are wonderful role models for their children. (Please plan to visit with other parents before or after storytime.)
What should I do if my child is not paying attention or starts crying?
It is not expected that your child will participate in every activity. Sometimes children just like to watch what’s going on. However, if they see you participating, they eventually will too. If your child becomes too restless or unhappy, please step outside for a moment. Come back in when your child is ready to return to the group or try again another day.
Can I bring snacks?
Please save snacks for another time. Children are better able to participate in storytime activities if their hands are free and they are not distracted by food. Also, sharing can be problematic for families with food allergies and dietary restrictions. Do, however, feel free to nurse or bottle-feed babies.
Is there storytime when it snows?
If East Greenbush schools are closed due to inclement weather, storytime is cancelled. If they are delayed, please call ahead to see if we are still having your session for that day.
