Library Board Trustees Openings
There are three positions on the Library’s Board of Trustees: Two of the positions are for five-year terms beginning January 1, 2016. The third position is to complete the term through December 2018 of a trustee who resigned.
The election to determine the trustees and the budget for 2016 will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Voters who are registered and eligible to vote in general elections of the Town of East Greenbush may vote in the library election.
Absentee Ballots are available. Voters can apply for an absentee ballot by picking up and filling out an application that are available in the library at the Reference Desk. Applications must be personally delivered to the library, to the attention of the Director, no later than September 2, 2015. Ballots need to be postmarked no later than the day before the election, September 9, 2015.
There are three candidates running for these positions: Kevin McCann, Betty Bellino-Guigno and James Lansing.
Kevin McCann is a dedicated advocate and volunteer for the East Greenbush Community Library. A longtime resident and retired East Greenbush School Teacher, he has served on the Library Board since 2006. In his role as Treasurer for the Board, he has worked hard to keep tax increases at or below the Governor’s cap while addressing financial hardships due to increased state mandated expenses. He and his wife Karen are longtime Friends of the Library, who are very active volunteers for the book sales. If elected, he will continue his work with the budget as well as work to give the community a voice on issues the library is addressing.
Betty Bellino-Giugno has been serving on the East Greenbush Community Library’s Board of Trustees since March 2009. This has given her the opportunity to learn about the Library operations and given insight into the budget process. Betty and her husband, Matt moved to East Greenbush over 30 years ago and raised their sons here. She graduated from Hartwick College with a degree in Sociology and has a Master in Education Curriculum and Instruction from SUNY Albany with a NYS Permanent N-6 Teachers Certification. She was a day care teacher for 5 years and a director of early care and education programs for over 25 years. Betty also worked for the Center for Excellence in Aging Services at the SUNY Research Foundation and is currently employed with the Workforce Development Institute as a Program Associate with the Facilitated Child Care Enrollment program. Betty feels she would be a good advocate for the Library to provide the highest quality library services to the community. Her education, experience and active involvement with the Friends of the Library make me an ideal candidate for Trustee.
James Lansing has been a lifelong resident of the Capital District, having lived, worked and been educated in the area. In 2008, he moved with his family to East Greenbush. By trade, James is an engineer and a manager working for New York State, where he has been employed for over 20 years. In his role as a professional, he has gained experience in coordinating projects, utilization of resources, and interacting with the public and other entities. As a manager, engineer, and former tutor, he feels the value of educational resources and proper environments are conducive to learning and bettering oneself. James enjoys and appreciates what a library offers its patrons and the community. As a member of the Board of Trustees, he would do whatever he could to further there.
